Delta Energy Systems is a subsidiary of multi-billion dollar global company Delta Electronics Group, which makes all sorts of industrial, medical and consumer electronics as well as solar inverters.

The company commenced operations in 1971 and has been producing solar inverters since 1999. For the Australian residential market, Delta currently has a couple of standard solar inverter product lines - the Home Series (5kW) and the RPI (5kW and 10kW).  There are also hybrid inverters available - the E5, H8E and H10E; which can be used with Delta batteries.

Back in the day when I worked as a control engineer in a nuclear power station, we used Delta power supplies for reactor control systems. In my experience, they know how to make reliable electronics!

One of the strengths of Delta inverters is that they can get jolly hot (65 degrees celsius) without derating. So they are a good pick in the hotter parts of Australia.

Delta Inverter Warranty Notes

A 5 year warranty is offered on Delta Home Series solar inverters (and the hybrids).

The company's Australian office is located in Mount Waverly, Victoria, so local warranty support should not be a problem. However, the first point of contact for warranty issues should be the business that installed your Delta solar inverter, as they bear the responsibility for warranty work.

In the scenario the installer/company is no longer around or otherwise uncontactable, Delta advise that Australians should contact their warranty department on the number listed above.

Delta will then email the customer a warranty claim form, which needs to be filled in and returned. Delta will then arrange for the repair/replacement of the inverter.

My Delta inverter worked well for the first year, but has since had continuing problems.

I have spent long hours on the phone with Delta with no success.The IT support have tried to re-commission and problem solve with no success.

The inverter shows no WiFi connection when I know my internet is working and lately the grid light is either off or blinking. The app shows no input for large chunks of time and all data for the first two years has been lost.

The PowerPal app that lets us monitor consumption has been invaluable as is the Delta production app to monitor production. We have experienced no problems at all in th eyear we have had the system.

The inverter activates early in the morning. Sunrise 5:12am and can see rise in kW immediately. 0.5kW by 6:35am. 1kW by 7am. 3kW by 8:20am. 4.7kW by 9:50am.
Peak output appears to be 4.8kW instead of 5kW - not a lot but (4%) will add up over time.
Once at 4.7-4.8kW the system rarely flat lines at the peak output, but bounces around the 4.5 -4.8kW. There always seems to be an early drop off post 12noon, which is unexplained at present (don't think shading/clouds have been the cause).

We ended up having some real issues here. First off the installer didn't realise that we were on two phase so needed a second inverter. Before they installed the second one, the first one fried itself because it was trying to export to the grid when we have zero export. Delta sent out a replacement inverter which seemed ok. We then receieved the second inverter which was installed, same issue as the first (they couldn't stop it from exporting). We then had to get yet another replacement. Finally 5 months after the inital installation, we were able to get our solar up and working. Turned out to be a firmware issue. You would have thought Delta would have figured that one out earlier in the game. I felt bad for the installers

We have been satisfied with our inverter but still have a driving question as to why does it go to Derating mode so often. This happened quite a lot in summer and we accepted the fact of so much going back into the grid, however it is still happening during the winter months. We would love a Layman style explanation. Will need to contact our installer again.

Had an issue with the inverter, Ross from Capacity attended to the issue in a timely manner, organised the replacement and installed it back to good working order. The Delta technicians are based in Melbourne and tested the system fully from their end. Had some issues with WiFi of which have been sorted. Would I go with a Delta inverter next time, possibly not but it is doing it's job now with no issues.

We are finding that the new APP may not be making it to the end user such as yourself. The previous APP is known as My Delta Solar but the NEW app is known as "Delta Solar" which is currently running at 5 stars compared to the old app with 2.8 stars. You can use your normal log-in details for this . Also there is a web based portal with very in depth data available at https://mydeltasolar.deltaww.com/ you simply use your usual login to gain access.

Hopefully this will warrant an update from 4 stars to 5 stars.

The Delta inverter has no fan and is silent. A salesman from a different company which sold fronius inverters (which have fans) reckon that’s a problem. But Delta is a massive company with a solid reputation and a 10 year warranty and if there was an issue then SolarQuotes would not recommend them. Plus, it’s silent!

The associated app is not easy to use without some initial help to setup. Once that’s done it’s great!

Follow up after 8-9months: the inverter seems to be working just fine. After initially checking the ap multiple times a day to see how much power is being generated, now I check periodically as I’m satisfied it’s just doing its thing in the background. The ap is ok, provides the necessary data to review, but could probably be more user friendly in its overall design

There are two versions of the app available and you may want to search DELTA SOLAR as opposed to MyDeltaSolar.

Would not touch these inverters with a 10-foot pole. Mine died after 7 years and only had a 5 year warranty. Supposedly i was buying a German "quality" inverter. My suggestion is to buy a Chinese brand like Goodwe and save yourself some money. Price these days clearly doesn't buy any kind of quality. I also called Delta hoping they would at least offer me a discount on a new inverter and they could not give a rats.

Hi Ben,

Looking at the details of your system it was originally sold with a Delta Solivia which came with a ten year warranty but it seems it was changed out to an RPI model (written in pen) at time of installation which had a 5 year warranty.

The inverter lasted two year beyond the warranty period. You would have received an email where I actually addressed this particular case with my team and agreed to a price for a replacement unit as a act of good faith. Unfortunately this was not passed onto you due to this being a very busy time in the Australian Solar industry.

So to summarise:
1) Inverter was two years out of warranty. Many consumer products would stick strong to this and deny any possible discussion.
2) You did the right thing and contacted Delta to see what was possible and approached it in a fair and reasonable way.
3) Delta did evaluate and produce a fair and reasonable solution.
4) This fair and reasonable solution didn't make it to you prior to your review due to a busy time of year.

You may choose to leave this review at one star as that is your prerogative but I did wonder, what was your original review star at time of installation? I couldn't find that review.

Had a Delta H5A_222 inverter installed nearly 3 weeks ago to replace my Sungrow SG5K-D (which constantly tripped my RCD, warranty replacement).

So far, so good. Power generation is nice and early (30V DC on compared to 70V or so for other brands) and no fans=no noise. Nice compact unit, but:

1. As others have said, please improve your monitoring app. It is buggy, crashes out mostly when in P2P mode.
2. Include more data that is being presented. For example, I have no idea what the grid voltage is.
3. Status of inverter. Operating normal, derating, etc......
4. Using the DSS software (dowload from Delta for Windows), I can see derating events. Doesn't tell me WHY the inverter derated. I can't get this info in the Android app.
5. No way to generate reports (Sungrow did this well).

On average, the unit works well, but you need to do better with how app reports status and other events.


Also, my inverter is topping out on days at 4.5kW and not 5kW. Without knowing grid voltage and if the inverter is derating due to high voltages, I have no clue as to why it tops out at 4.5kW. Unit is rated for 4.99 kW.

The APP was an early iteration and we have since released a new version.

Please search for DELTA SOLAR (not MyDeltaSolar) and use your same login details.

These apps are used globally from 2.5kw to Multiple MW solar farms. Unfortunately we need to satisfy the engineers on solar farms and residential. The new app seems to be receiving much better reviews and replies from the residential base.

Delta inverter seems to work fine and converts whatever sunshine to usable power efficiently.

However the software and app leaves a lot to be desired!
It took three additional trips by the installer, including:
- setup of the inverter to properly communicate over Wifi
- fixing the correct type of plug for consumption monitoring
- setup of the inverter to report consumption monitoring
- plus two phonecalls from myself to Delta's rep in Australia to set the inverter up the right way to read consumption data correctly.
