Hyundai solar panels are competitively priced, tier 1 modules supplied by South Korea's Hyundai Green Energy. The company kicked off its solar activities in 2004, set up its first cell and panel production line in 2007 and entered the Australian market in 2009.
While Hyundai subsequently exited the Australian solar market in 2011, it began re-supplying modules here in 2018. As far as we're aware, its panels are produced in China by Tongwei these days.
Hyundai And Shingled Solar Panels
The panels currently available in Australia are the UF Series featuring PERC shingled cells; in various capacities up to 400W.
Shingle panels have solar cells slightly overlapping each other, with the connection between the cells in the overlap. This provides more cell area on the module.
Shingled modules use electrically conductive adhesive rather than solder ribbon to connect the cells, which Hyundai says reduces stress on the cells during the manufacturing process and provides better flexibility under loads created by wind and snow. We don't see much of the latter in Australia, but plenty of the former..
Hyundai panels offer a pretty impressive efficiency (up to 21.3%) and a respectable temperature coefficient (-0.34%/°C ) to help with performance in high temperatures.
What is particularly impressive is Hyundai was one of the first companies at this end of the market to offer a 25-year product warranty. This was previously unheard of in panels in Hyundai's pricing range (now towards the budget end of the spectrum). This warranty is only available in Australia and Europe, so again we live up to the title of The Lucky Country.
Hyundai solar panels are salt mist corrosion resistant, so are suitable for installation anywhere in Australia. You can see specs and approximate pricing for the UF Series on SolarQuotes' panel comparison page.
Hyundai Solar Panels Worth Considering
The specs are good, the warranty is generous, the company is very well established (considered a Tier 1 manufacturer) and appears pretty solid, so Hyundai solar panels could be a particularly good choice for Australians on a budget.
