Tesla PowerWall Purchase and Installation after 3 years of solar production

Mike at Soltek was great to deal with. Competitive pricing and solid information provided in relation to any queries. Very timely and extremely professional installation - they did a great job in a "busy" area. A real pleasure to work with on this project. Would strongly recommend - thanks Finn and team for the steer!

Excellent installation

The sales quoting process was quick and succinct.
All details of the various solar panels and inverters and batteries were clearly written and tabulated.
It made choosing the right solar panels for my home easier.

The technicians were punctual. They were polite and friendly. Did a good job. They were careful not to break any tiles and they cleaned up after their work.

The technician showed me how to turn off the inverter and how to check the inverter status. He answered my various questions.
They helped organize the grid connection after the installation.

There was a small problem with the battery not talking to the inverter but Soltekenergy helped rectify it.

Original Review on 07-07-2023:

Excellent installer, with great follow-up service & a beautiful, neat installation

We used Soltek for our solar installation on an older house in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. The Sales and Quoting process went very smoothly. The Sales Person made phone contact on the first business day after doing the "three quotes" with SolarQuotes. He visited our home on the following day and we talked through possibilities for panels and inverters. Ours was a straightforward design, since we had only two, rectangular, 30o sloping, west-facing roof sections to place panels. (There is an Edwards Solar Hot Water system on the small north-facing roof section, that provides hot water for two of us for about $10-$20 per year, at current rates.) The matrix quote for panels and inverters made it easy to see and compare costs for 9 different systems. This initial quote really helps you decide how much you want to spend and where to make compromises. Our main focus was to install as much "power" on the available roof area as possible, since our earlier (2010) solar system was only 2.34kW (12 panels at 195W each) and we realised that in real world situations, much more power was needed to run various electric appliances e.g. RC air-conditioning uses about 2.0-2.4kW, the dishwasher about 2.4kW, a column heater from 1.2-2.4kW, the oven about 2.4kW etc. We wanted a system that would fully power the operation of some of these appliances. We were able to get an 8.8kW system. We ended up going with "entry-level" panels that we are very happy with i.e. 20 Jinko Tiger N-type All Black 440W panels with a "top- end" SolarEdge SE8250 Home Hub Inverter with Power Optimisers for the panels. The installation occurred about 2 weeks after the site visit (but we may have got in on a cancellation). The installers were polite, helpful, careful and installed the panels where we wanted them i.e. high up on the roof sections. They arrived a bit later than we expected (due to finishing a previous job), but finished our installation of 20 panels and inverter within the day. The work was very neat, including the alignment of panels and the cabling. It took a repeat visit a few days later to get the system up and running, apparently because of a mislabelling of something within the inverter during its manufacture. This was easily sorted out by a phone call. Then, a few days later, there was a bit of a problem (some sort of optimisation / configuration issue), but this was fixed remotely by SolarEdge. We were very happy with the follow-up service by Soltek, after installation. The system has been running now for 7 weeks during winter, without any further problems. The system is performing as predicted in terms of power output. We are regularly getting (winter) 4-5 kW maximum output, well above the 2.4kW needed for appliances. We were already grid-connected and had a Smart Meter (with our previous solar system) and Soltek arranged the Connection Application with AUSGRID for our new system and forwarded the Contract Notification Letter to us. Soltek provided us with the required paperwork for the CCEW (Certificate of Compliance - Electrical Work), as well the "Soltek Energy Workmanship & Installation Warranty Certificate", serial numbers of the 20 Jinko panels, a Tax Invoice & Receipt. The SolarEdge Home Hub gives access to the SolarEdge phone app, which allows real time monitoring of power production, power usage within the house and power export to the grid. This is really useful if you want to maximise self-consumption of your solar power, which is the key to its financial benefits. We had some shading issues on one of the roof sections (chimney in winter), but it appears that the optimisers are dealing with that quite well, based on the panel-level monitoring which you can also see with the app. Incidentally, we were advised to have some spare roof tiles handy, in case of breakages, with heavy panel & heavy people during installation. We bought 20 from RoofTileRecyclers (Prospect, Sydney) and about half of these were needed. Original ratings

Fantastic feedback, thanks Jane. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to provide us with such in-depth feedback. Our best wishes into the future with your system.

10 months later we asked Jane: "Are you happy with the performance of your system so far?"

We think the system has performed to our expectations or, more importantly, to the predictions of system performance as provided during the documentation. The monitoring app with a graph showing actual monthly output in MWh compares well with the predicted average monthly output. About half the months had slightly greater production than predicted and about half had slightly less production than predicted. It is likely that this is the result of monthly variability in weather.
We have had no problems in the 12 months since installation from the SolarEdge Inverter, from the Jinko panels or from the SolarEdge app. (Just remembered, maybe I had to ring up SolarEdge once for them to do a remote re-set when the SolarEdge app wasn't working one day. It was fixed straight away.)
I would recommend getting the biggest system (panels) your roof can take, if you can afford it, since you are unlikely to regret the excess solar generation, especially if you do get a battery.
(We previously had a small 2.34kW system dating from 2010 and, whilst it helped reduce electricity bills, most heavy energy using appliances require 2.5kW each, so such a small system doesn't even cover one appliance.)

10kw micro inverter installation

Sales person presented simply, hand sketched summary of system with no frills spreadsheets or software . Sales person was an installer/electrical engineer and was able to inspect power board and check if additional work required that others who quoted were not able to do.

Installers were punctual and communicated delays due to weather. Good quality installation and followed up with grid connection. Made changes on site to panel layout so system size maintained.

Excellent product and service.

Every aspect from the initial quote through to the actual panel installation with Soltek has been efficient, professionally conducted and well communicated. The quoting process was clear, thoroughly informative, not just "sales talk". Only waited about a week before a very knowledgeable team arrived to do the installation. They were well organised, polite, kept us informed of each step they were doing and finished the job to a very high standard.
Customer service and followup in arranging grid connection etc with our provider has been excellent.
Overall, we could not fault the quality of the product we purchased nor the service we received from Soltek.

Completely our choice

The sales consultant was punctual, polite and patient. He answered my questions and informed me of all the options available to me, in terms of cost and quality, for both panels and inverters. And then followed up with a detailed written quotation.
The installers were polite, hardworking, tidy and professional, staying til early evening to finish the install on the same day.
With regard to the grid connection, I did need to chase that up, but once i called them, they were very prompt in putting in the request to my provider.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience with Soltek

Great information and installation experience

Quote process was very informative and Mike took lots of time to explain everything really clearly. Although I had another quote that was more expansive and detailed, the Soltek quote was a long way below and compelling, so we decided to go with them. Everything arrived and was installed as expected and on time. Love the app showing us our energy generation vs consumption - it's strangely addictive!

A great solar system

Damian was very knowledgable during the quoting and answered all my questions clearly.

The installation crew were polite and worked hard, they delivered a quality system neatly installed.

Soltek organized the solar connection/ meter very efficiently. They also installed the system on the day requested.

The system is producing better than promised so I am very happy overall.

My only complaint was that the roofing crew broke a lot of tiles by trying to remove the tile nail by pulling on the tile. They said the tile nails were longer than usual which is why so many tiles were being broken. When I found out what was happening I provided a pair of pincers to cut the nail or pull it out without breaking the tile. Up to this point every tile with a nail was being broken.

This was a new roof so I wasn’t happy that so many tiles were being broken and that the roofing crew didn’t consider this to be a problem. They would have happily continued breaking every tile with a nail. Apart from this I was happy with the quality of the installation.

An imaginative solution to a seemingly impossible solar installation.

The installation was a 6.6 kWh system for the use of the middle level unit of a three unit concrete residential strata property.
The panels with micro-inverters are on the roof of the four level structure and the switchboard and meters are located in a concrete walled room in the basement.
It was found that all the existing wiring in the building between the air-conditioning units and telecoms equipment on the roof and the switchboard room in the basement had been laid during the construction of the building and there was no void through which to run the wiring from the micro-inverters to the meters. It was also determined that there was no other way to run the wiring from the roof to the basement, internally or external to the structure, that would be code compliant.
Initially it was thought that this was death a sentence for the project, but after further examination of the existing electrical set-up on the roof, Soltek came up with the idea of connecting the micro-inverters to the circuit providing power to the air-conditioning unit through a sub-switchboard installed on the roof. This proved to be feasible and the installation proceeded in that manner.
The physical installation itself was conducted as scheduled without any inconvenience to the residents of the units.
The system was operational immediately after completion of the physical installation, generating power for domestic use, monitorable on the multi-inverter software application.
With the subsequent installation of the smart meter by the electricity retailer, it is now possible, using both the retailer's and the multi-inverter's software applications, to monitor power generation and the amount drawn from and fed into the grid on an hourly basis.

Very happy using Soltek to install our new solar energy system

We were very happy with the sales person and the communication from the company. I had a million questions and the sales person was very helpful.
Due to the busyness of the time of year - before Christmas - our appointment was put back twice, but all good.
Installation was seamless and installers worked hard and did a great job. They arrived on time and were respectful. Three installers completed everything by 3pm in one day.
Everything went as planned and communication was timely.
I have recieved all documentation as promised and Red Energy has installed the new smart meter already for remote monitoring. The SolarEdge app works well to tell me what the system is producing and what we are consuming from solar and the grid.
Very happy with our purchase and the panels look great on the roof - when you notice that they are there!

Pre-sale performance very good; post-sale performance less so

All three companies that I obtained quotes from had excellent and very responsive salespeople. Soltek's salesman was marginally better with his answers to technical questions and persuaded us to buy a Solar Edge string system with optimisers instead of an Enphase micro-inverter system. (Another company had also recommended a string system with optimisers over a micro-inverter system.) The presentation of Soltek's quote for several alternative systems, with equipment from various manufacturers, showed their technical features and prices in the way that made it easiest to compare them. Finally, Soltek agreed to a discount to match another company's quote.

Just before accepting the quote, I realised that a small group of PV panels on the western roof might be vulnerable to shadow from a chimney and a basketball backboard. Soltek's salesman proposed a modified positioning of those panels, but no decision was made.

Our installation was booked to start at 9 am on a Thursday, as I had told Soltek that that was the only day that I could be on site. At 10 am I called Soltek to find out why nobody had turned up. It emerged that, because on the Tuesday rain had been predicted for the Thursday, Soltek had decided to postpone installation to the Friday. However, the installation supervisor had forgotten to message me to tell me that.

Because I could not be present on the Friday and I needed to know where Soltek planned to place the panels on the western roof and the battery, the installation supervisor reluctantly agreed to visit the site on the Thursday afternoon. The supervisor wanted me, instead of him, to make the final decision on where to place the panels on the western roof. I said that I would leave it to him to work it out with the salesman, as I would rely on Soltek's technical expertise. The positioning of the battery was decided largely because the only alternative position would have incurred additional cost, which I had not been told to expect.

The installation appeared to have been carried out well. Everything was very neat.

Once the installation was complete, I received an email inviting me to register for Solar Edge's online monitoring app. To my surprise, it referred to a 10.14kW system, not a 13.33kW system. (The generation system is 13.33kW and the battery is 10.14kW.) I registered and could immediately see how the system was performing.

The next day I received another email inviting me to register for Solar Edge's online monitoring app, this time referring to a 13.33kW system. I emailed Soltek about this and was told that the person who sent the second invitation wasn't aware that someone else at Soltek had already sent me an invitation. Subsequently, I asked both Soltek and Solar Edge which invitation I should accept, but so far neither of them have responded.

A week after the system was installed, when I was away for a few days, the monitoring app showed that the system had stopped generating. When I got back home I took photographs of the inverter (which has 3 indicator lights, but nothing to say what they mean) and my electrical switch box and emailed them to Soltek, asking for advice on whether the system was working and, if not, how to make it work. Soltek directed me to the part of the monitoring app that re-establishes the connection between the system and the internet. When I couldn't reconnect the system, Soltek referred me to Solar Edge's support.

My conversations with Solar Edge's support ended with it saying that I needed to get my internet service provider to reconfigure my modem (router). I spent a lot of time communicating with my ISP, but couldn't achieve what Solar Edge said that it needed.

Several more communications with Solar Edge and Soltek ended with each of them referring me back to the other to solve the problem.

Eventually I carried out an online search and found another installer's advice on how to restart a Solar Edge system. Following those instructions, I opened my electrical switch box and - with a bit more research - worked out that the generation system had tripped the main switch, so the Solar Edge system was not working at all. Once I switched it back on, I was able to reconnect the monitoring system and see (a) that the generating system had not worked for about a week and (b) it was now working.

The net result of all of this was that I was left with the impression that, once the system had been installed and I had paid for it, Soltek didn't want to be involved any more. Apart from directing me to Solar Edge support, it simply didn't answer my questions. Worst of all, it was obvious that Soltek's engineer had not bothered to look at the photos I emailed to Soltek when I got back home, from which she could have seen immediately that the system was switched off. (It's extraordinary that Soltek didn't raise that as a thing to check as soon as I contacted it.)

Solar Edge's support also missed the obvious check to find out whether the system was on or off. Its advice to have my ISP reconfigure my modem (router) was obviously wrong.

The bottom line: I am happy with the Solar Edge system, which is working well. However, I've learned that it's largely up to me to understand how to manage the system and solve problems, with unreliable support from Solar Ege and no support from Soltek.

Smooth Sailing with Soltek

Sales quoting process was simple and i was give n 2 other options to decide from which didnt corner me into one system.
The consultation from the start was very informative and factual and all options laid on the table.I asked MANY questions and they had a quick and informative answer for all my questions which helped me a lot in my final decision to go with Soltek.
Installation went very smoothly , taking a bit longer due to weather and shortness of staff ( which is a common issue these days) .Installers were punctual tidy and lovely people to deal with.
Customer service has always been good with Soltek , but it took a bit too long to get me connected to the grid. It took a few weeks for this to happen and when the process started it took my provider more than 3 weeks to book a date to install the new .Powerboard so I can start selling to the grid. It actually still has not been installed and is due to be installed tomorrow ( over 1 month after my system had been installed on my roof). This is my only negative comment and was not 100% the fault of Soltek. Red Energy is my provider and they took too long in my opinion to arrange connection after they were advised from Soltek.

Only installer who wanted to visit the site.

Wouldn’t think twice about recommending the team at Soltek.

Competitive on price, gave honest opinions and didn’t try to up-sell.

We asked three companies for quotes, 1 never returned our calls, 1 refused to do a site visit, whilst the team at soltek had no issues in working around the on going renovation and the access issues at the property.

We had a 10.3kw system installed, with a solar edge inverter. The recommendations and opinions were consistent with reviews and advice on this site. I’m not an expert on solar panels or inverters but confident that after a year of operation we got not only a good deal, but good equipment.

We are now considering a battery and can’t see myself using any other company to install it if we go down that path.

Original Review on 05-01-2023:

Good quick installation

Soltek quoted quickly & explained all aspects and alternatives in the quote. Installation happened very quickly and although there was a glitch with some panels not connecting, this was soon sorted out. The installation team was very committed to making sure everything was working.

After installation, we felt that energy production was lower than it should be & Soltek was not as responsive as we would have hoped in relation to this concern - probably due to Christmas shutdown. After Christmas we got in touch with the inverter support desk (Solaredge) who remotely reset the system and it is now performing perfectly. That is, it was an inverter issue rather than an installation issue.

Thanks for choosing Soltek Energy to assist with this important decision Dennis and we're sure you will enjoy the savings for many years to come.

10 months later we asked Dennis: "Are you happy with the performance of your system so far?"

Yes, the system performed beautifully at first and then our meter was Changed to a smart meter and that seemed to change the readings. We also received a message from Soltek Energy saying that the new meter was giving incorrect readings. I contacted AGL and they didn't seem particularly interested so I spoke to a qualified electrician. He had a look at our meter board and found that the meter had been connected in reverse! This was corrected and everything was back to normal . From that point the system performs perfectly. I am very pleased we selected Soltek Energy, .as they also send us a monthly report on our system and we find this very informative. I hope this gives you all the information you need. A very easy choice.

I did quite a bit of research before I got quotes on the solar system. I obtained four separate quotes and conversed with each quoting Company. I had the most confidence in Soltek and proceeded with them. They were quite amenable to changing specifications of the system to better suit our needs and we settled on an end cost and installation outlay. Once agreed, nothing changed.
The installation was arranged very quickly and the contractors arrived with everything needed for their task. All three immediately set to work after assurances from me that we were of the same understanding. All workers were happy, polite and didn't mind answering my (many) questions. The work was completed much faster than I expected and I am very happy with the appearance and quality of the work done. They completely tidied up after themselves and even took all of their own rubbish away to be disposed of elsewhere.
Soltek organised for the installation of the smart meter from our power distributor after receiving all details from us. All necessary information was passed between us before the installation process began. We we thus aware of all requirements in advance. The smart meter has not yet been installed but we are not in any hurry for that to happen. Soltek are not responsible for the grid connection.
The system appears to be working very well and we are very happy with the whole process. I have since recommended Soltek Energy to two others and I would be happy to recommend them to anybody contemplating a solar install.

Happy

Damien came to the house and talked through all the options for us. He did not try to push any particular system and was good with the pros and cons. He provided a quote with three options. Installers were punctual, helpful, friendly and professional. Soltek was helpful all the way with grid connection. Because of our three-level roofs with some shadows at various times of the day and the small size of our system (5.13kwh) we opted eventually for the Enphase system of micro inverters with Winaico panels. It is far from cheap but the most practical solution as the output of the panels does vary during the day. So far, a month on, we are getting around 80% (3.7-4kwh at peak) as expected and finding that is plenty of energy for us (we have retained our instant gas hot water system), as we are home during the day.

Poor quality installation and poor customer service

One of the panels installed by Soltek isn’t lining up with the other adjacent panels and its sagging compared to the other panels. This rack supporting this panel has uneven supports installed and as such its not able to hold it upright or straight.

I brought this to the notice of Soltek and they have flatly refused to investigate it, I also had to follow up with NSW Fair Trading to get this rectified. However, NSW Fair trading can’t assist further in this regard and I don’t want to waste my time chasing it up further.

I choose this installer thinking that I would be getting good installation quality. However, that has not been the case.

I also had to chase up multiple times for my paperwork and had to literally guide the team there in filling up the paperwork for the Metering change. It almost seemed like they don’t have enough experience in doing this stuff, as for an experienced person would have already known which kind of paperwork needs to be done for my retailer.

The threats of action even in the knowledge that a delay with the CCEW was owing to a medical emergency with one of our staff was also disappointing. Your complaint was handled effectively and professionally and was reviewed by our Director. We welcomed your complaint to NSW Dept. of Fair Trading and happily submitted all of our information, documentation, photographs and communication to them. We are satisfied that they are satisfied that Soltek Energy has delivered a professional installation Thank you for your dealings at it has reinforced that our focus is continued on our excellent and worthy customers.

Fantastic job on a solar battery

The process was very easy, the team was always contactable and the experts were professional and very helpful. The sales person talked through all the options and provided different quotes as needed. The installation was easy and they walked me through it and kept me updated. High standard of work and a professional job, even handling the complexities of the site with a small working area.

Fabulous system, great components and install. Would recommend

The quoting process was great, they were endlessly patient with my questions and changes to the system size etc.

Installation- so prompt- installed within a week of agreement. Prompt to site and patient when the wrong colour rails arrived to site- changing them was not a problem. The team were professional and skilled. I had asked for an extra 3 panels to come to site incase they could fit more panels on and I was a little disappointed that they added them on without consultation as I would have appreciated to be consulted- but overall I was very happy with the install. The workmanship is neat and tidy and I can’t fault it. The system started feeding to the grid on that day it was installed.

The customer service has been great in the quoting phase and in resolving the incorrect rail colour on the install day but their customer service following install has been a little disappointing. I’ve emailed questions and not had any response. Admittedly I’ve worked most things out with time.

But I’m still waiting on an amendment to the system as they listed the panels in the Enphase app on the incorrect orientation. I would like this adjusted so that I have a clear understanding of the data and performance over time. Whilst the items that I am asking for assistance with aren’t critical, a response would be appreciated and it would help with understanding that if something critical was to happen with the system they would assist promptly. The customer assistance following the installation is critical in my eyes.

Great job

Mick from sales was very helpful in giving us the information we needed during the selection of our system.
From the signing of the contract to installation took less than a week and the 40 panel installation was done in a day. Very impressed.
I would like to thank Soltek for a job well done.

Excellent product

I’ve had solar panels installed for the past 9 months and it has saved us at least $1200 as we were paying $150 per fortnight electricity now my past three bills have been less than $50. I can’t recommend Soltek more highly and Doug the sales rep does an amazing job explaining the process from start to finish.

Professional quote and installation

I got quotes from multiple sources (note just from SolarQuotes). Soltek was the easiest to understand, and was clearly free from some of the bullshit, such as a 7 day holiday if I book today. Went through a bit of a back and forth with me to tailor the quote. The install was really good. They told it would be preferable not to install on tiles if possible and provided an alternative arrangement on the colourbond to avoid. Install was efficient.
Soltek led the rest of the install inluding connection, and caused me absolutel no fuss at all.
One of the SolarEdge optimisers failed, and all it took was an email to Soltek for them to sort out the replacement. They have been really good at providing ongoing support, which is nice considering they already have my money!

Damien was only supplier to actually come out to site to quote. Being a townhouse there are always unique problems. Installation was quick despite some difficulties accessing roof. System high standard and working well. From start to finish Soltek has been immaculate. I am very happy with the product suggested by Soltek which is excelling expectations

Top system, poor install

I chose Soltek Energy for my install. They told me that I had to install a 4 core and earth 16 mm cable from the garage, where the panels are installed, to the main switchboard 56 meters in total. That is a heavy-duty cable in a domestic situation for sure.

The reason to install this cable was, when you install 22 solar panels, as he insisted could be installed, you need two cable strings running to the main switchboard. Only 21 panels were installed as the installers said the 22nd wasn’t allowed by the installation rules. They didn’t mention that if the Enphase board were installed in the garage, close to the panels, only one string would be needed back to the main switchboard. That was exactly where the Soltek electrician installed it, in the garage. If one does a calculation - 21 panels at 410-watt equals 8.61kW at 240V/36amp. These panels facing north at 2 degrees angle will never produce 8.61kW, maybe 6.61kW on a good day with Enphase micro inverters, so more likely 29amp. One string over 56 meters would be more than enough, even with the de rating over this distance.

Therefore, I could have installed a 2 core and earth 16 square cable and saved $350.00. By installing the Enphase board in the garage the electrician now had two spare 16 square ml cords to deal with (White and Blue), he installed these on the main earth bar. Since when is it permissible to install any other colour of cable to the Earth bar other than Yellow/Green?

One ADC310T circuit breaker, was removed and not returned to owner.

The switchboard was left unlocked at the top, as the left locking point has been damaged. The switchboard needs replacing, as it no longer can be secured and locked.

I had three panels installed on the back roof of the garage facing south. The back bracket is installed at such an angle as it’s pulling the right hand corner down and is putting a lot of strain on the panel.

How difficult is it to locate and drill into the middle of a wood support beam when clearly visible from underneath. These installers obviously do not use measuring tapes or levels?

Two panels on the back roof I requested to be installed closer to the gutter didn’t take place, as installed one cable is shading part of this panel.

The Soltek sales person, agreed to come and meet me on Monday 29th May. He did turn up on agreed date, however was very unpleasant and dismissive about all the issues I raised. They agreed to send the electrician out to correct and remove the cores installed on the earth bars (white and blue).

As today, 14 June, I haven’t heard from them. I think it’s a very bad performance of Soltek.

We ordered a top of the range solar system worth over $28.000 fully paid for and received a very mediocre installation of it. When enquiring about the install all we got was dismissiveness and a wall of silence.

Finally Mr Peacock I would like to tell you how much admire you for creating the Solar Quotes web site. It’s very informative and right to the point when you are looking to install a solar system. I do meet a lot of people in my travels and am very passionate about solar and I always tell people to log onto Solar Quotes to read up about solar systems and different gear before making a decision of what to install, and finally get three quotes form Finn Peacock at Solar Quotes.

Ingemar.

Hi Mr Johansson, We appreciate you taking the time to provide a response and happy to take on appropriate feedback.
Based on your response, we have had a subsequent conversation with our Installer team who revealed that they were open to varying the installation and layout according to your preference. There is clearly a miss-understanding as the reason that the final design was applied is per the discussion that was had with you onsite.
In terms of the professionalism of the overall install, our installation team are both qualified electricians and CEC approved solar installers who have been completing excellent work for us for close to 10yrs. We acknowledge your own electrical licence and desire to be involved in the installation. We must stress that the Team were acutely aware of your presence onsite and the need to ensure that the site and where you were involved was always safe as you are not under the direction of our Team Leader nor our own insurance. We must adhere to and comply with all requirements, rules and standards with installations. Importantly, these vary to your own including the voltage rise calculations which you have cited. We’ve double-checked the Installer calculations, and these are correct.
Notwithstanding the above, based upon your feedback and our discussions since, we have requested twice to visit your property to understand and review the feedback that has been supplied. We’ve been unable to agree a date/time with you and we invite you to contact us 1300 844 445 to formalise.

Positive start - negative finish

Initially, I would like to acknowledge the Sales Representative's commitment to addressing our queries and providing detailed information before we signed the contract. Their responsiveness and willingness to assist were commendable. However, after the contract was signed, I noticed a significant decline in the level of service provided.

Delay to install:
According to the representative, the estimated installation time was around 5-6 weeks, depending on the workload. However, the installation was delayed due to a panel delay, and it ended up taking 7-8 weeks. Although this delay was not a significant problem for us, it was still an inconvenience.

Sub-contractor install:
The installation carried out by Soltek was handled by a sub-contractor instead of their in-house technicians. Although the Soltek representative mentioned that a Soltek Engineer would be present on-site to oversee the installation, no engineer from Soltek was actually present.
However, the sub-contractor who performed the installation was polite and punctual. They encountered a problem with installing the software, which caused a delay of several hours. Fortunately, this issue was resolved on the same day.

Upgraded inverter was not supplied:
We received an email notification from Soltek stating that we were eligible for a complimentary upgrade from an SE8kW inverter to an SE10kW inverter. However, when the installation took place, the contractor was unaware of the 10kW upgrade and proceeded to install the SE8kW inverter as instructed. When I raised this concern with the Soltek Sales representative, they claimed to have no knowledge of the upgrade. There was no further inquest, contact or response regarding this.

Panel location:
On the day of the installation, another issue arose when the contractor informed me that the panel location suggested by Soltek, based on their layout plan, might not be the most ideal placement for optimal productivity. This was concerning, as we had expected the supplier's recommendations to ensure the panels were positioned for maximum efficiency. Discovering this discrepancy on the day of the installation was not the experience we had anticipated.

SolarEdge App discrepancy - Energy supplier:
There has been a noticeable discrepancy between the data displayed on the SolarEdge app, which indicates the amount of energy being produced, and the billing information provided by my energy company. In an effort to address this issue, I reached out to the Soltek representative and was informed that an enquiry would be lodged with SolarEdge. However, it has now been 28 days since I initially contacted Soltek via email, and I have not received any response or update. Despite sending a follow-up email after 21 days, I have yet to receive a reply. This lack of communication and resolution is regrettable and leaves me with unresolved concerns.

Post install service:
I must highlight the absence of post-installation service. There has been no follow-up email, phone call, or contact to inquire about the system's performance or address the ongoing discrepancy issue. I initially left two voice messages for the Sales Representative over a span of nine days regarding the SolarEdge app discrepancy, before getting through on my third attempt. This lack of post-service support is disappointing and raises concerns about the availability of assistance for potential repairs or warranty matters in the future.

Overall, I am highly dissatisfied with the level of service provided by Soltek. While the Sales Rep initially seemed attentive, the experience after signing the contract has been disappointing. The delays in installation, failure to provide the promised upgrade, inadequate panel placement information, lack of response to enquiries, and absence of post-install support to date have all contributed to my frustration. I am hesitant to push for a resolution, as it may jeopardise any future relationship with the company.

In sharing this feedback, my intention is not to cause any harm to the relationship but rather to bring attention to the areas where improvement is needed. I genuinely believe that open communication, customer service, and prompt resolution of these issues would help rectify the situation and restore my confidence in Soltek Energy.

Supplier Reply:

Hi Lawrence, appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback/commentary. We can only highlight that the major challenge/hurdle with your system is the lack of a router/modem at the property. This was initially flagged and raised with you as being a problem into the future. Hot-spotting your phone is ineffective and will not allow proper transfer of data or firmware updates particularly, when you leave the premises with your phone/tablet. This is why your Retailer and SolarEdge monitoring do not match-up as SolarEdge do not retain or hold data and the intervals in between do not allow transfer of this crucial data. While we are aware it's not to your liking, the only way to overcome your issue and as explained, is to acquire adequate hardware and internet connectivity to allow the system to be online and communicate effectively. There is no other resolution as you have been made aware.
Otherwise and to answer your other concerns, leading up to your installation there was a shortfall or lack of SE8K inverter stock available so we flagged that we may need to use an SE10K instead (which would have been an upgrade). Thankfully, we were able to obtain SE8K stock and install your chosen product accordingly. We're unsure why you are unhappy as you have received exactly as was agreed and paid for.
For our Installer Team, Pat and his guys have been with us for 7yrs and rather than restrict him from branching out and also installing his own projects, we are happy that more clients benefit from his excellent work. We do not see this as an issue and cover off in our agreement that Contractors are and can be used.
Lawrence we're sorry that you believe that you've had a poor experience although, stating that you've had no response is different when the response you have received is not what you want to hear.

Original Review on 09-08-2022:

Excellent service pre, during and post installation

Plenty of explanation during quoting process. Good explanations of different technical options. The company was prepared to look at site and consider the installation to minimise heritage architecture concerns with location of inverter. The company offered a good choice of options and price points for inverter systems and panels.

Installation process was very good, tidy, polite and punctual.

The company was great at many questions I had post installation. They organised the request for meter upgrade.

Having the energy supplier organise the meter upgrade has been more challenging.

Appreciate the detailed feedback Michael, thanks for being a great customer. We look forward to helping you achieve your energy goals into the future.

10 months later we asked Michael: "Are you happy with the performance of your system so far?"

The system has performed to my expectations BUT it was not until the work was completed that I discovered I had to invest another $6k in having new electrical board and meters installed to be electrically compliant and to be able to “sell” power back to the grid by installing a smart meter. The house is 100+ years old with most wiring redone in the 90s. I would advise owners of older houses to consider this before starting a solar project. I am happy with the quality of the new meter work and now have the possibility of installing an EV charger in the future.
