On March 5th, 2024, Redback Technologies went into voluntary administration. On May 10th, 2024, they announced they had a new owner and were no longer in voluntary administration.
We do not recommend buying a Redback inverter or battery until further notice.
Redback Technologies is an Australian company founded in April 2015 and based in Brisbane. The company is supported by the Microsoft Innovation Centre and its partners include the University of Queensland.
Redback originally only produced hybrid inverters as part of its energy storage offerings, but in October 2021, it announced a range of single-phase inverters with 5, 6, 8, and 10kVA (kW) output.

Redback only have single phase inverters at present; we have 3 phase supply and it would have been better and more efficient to have a 3 phase inverter

Early days not happy with level of info and control from portal and app but this was sorted out quickly by AEM and Redback Technologies showing me better dashboard information available. Very happy now.

Purchase 2018. 4.8 kw battery. We too had connectivity issues at first but I found Redback to be brilliant with their back up and tech support. Major software upgrades in 2020 and no issues since. Living in Gippsland Vic we regularly have blackouts due to the weather. This system has not let us down. Quality batteries. Quality inverter. Neighbour had a similar aged Tesla power wall. Refunded and now has Redback. Plyontech battery still holds 94% at 4 years. Impressive.

Hybrid inverter/battery. Includes three 3.55kW Pylontech batteries to provide 10.7kWh capacity. Apparently Redback have improved their online portal. I find it works very well. One day when I opened the app on my Android phone, it advised me that there was an issue with the Redback reporting. It provided me with a walk through process with photos and with-in 10 minutes all was OK. The error didn't stop the system from generating or exporting power.
The system provides an uninterruptible power supply in case of grid blackouts. All my lights and one double GPO will supply power.

We had our Redback batteries installed in mid-2018. We have encountered some issues like connectivity drop outs (which impacted the usability of the app, not the system) and more recently the system has tripped a couple of times. Whilst frustrating, I have been in touch with Redback and they've been really good in sorting this all out for us. They updgraded our connection and replaced our Ouiji board and we've been going strong since. The new Reback app is also significantly better than the old app.
The Redback customer service team has been good to deal with since the installation too, and I find that logging a request via their online portal is a better option than calling.
To me, anyway, it seems like some of the issues that we were having in the past have been rectified and we've got no complaints now that everything is working as it should.
With my energy provider notifying me last week that they'll be buying my surplus supply off me for a massive 6.6c/kwh, I'm actually thinking it's time to put in a couple more batteries (we currently have 4.8kwh of storage and I'm pretty sure there's room in the housing for another 2 batteries, so potentially having 9.6kwh of storage is appealing).

Inverter works fine (eventually after faulty BMS cable replaced and current detectors re-located, thanks to a great installer).
BUT, the cloud connectivity (whether it's a hardware or software issue or both, is unknown) is crap. If one of my software team wrote comms software that continually dropped out like this does, I would sack them.
What's the point of providing monitoring software if the damned unit won't connect.
Would like to have more control of the unit. e.g. would like to be able to tell the system to stop draining the batteries overnight at a certain level so if the grid goes down in the morning I still have enough battery energy so I can keep my computers and routers working for a few hours.

Redback is the company we have just got our solar battery system through. It’s a SH5000 (5kW Inverter, 6.6kw of 265watt Jinko Panels, 4 Batteries total 9.6kWh). It’s an Australian company at the forefront of Technology and the product is incredible, check out their website. We are so impressed. The Company has an Adelaide Based Technical Support (George) for Redback should any assistance be required on your site. During the day the sun runs the household appliances and excess power is stored in the Batteries, after the batteries are full excess power is returned to the grid. During the evening our house runs off the batteries. The System will also assist in a “power outage” supplying power to essential items like Fridges and lighting that was preselected at installation.
The Online monitoring is fantastic and very responsive showing Exported power, Imported power, our systems Generation and the House’s Consumption. Also shows Batteries Charge and much more. The software driving the system works brilliantly.
The Redback System was Installed by NRG in Adelaide, we live at a Seaside Country town about 85kms from Adelaide. This was no problem for the Sales & quote process, then installation of the Jinco Solar Panels and Redback System.
Both Redback & NRG were friendly and helpful all the way through the process and we highly recommended anyone considering Solar to use this system.

Inverter has poor reliability. Trips and resets regularly, communication to icloud is poor. Up until the recent problems, and slow response by Redback, I would have recommended it. Now, I would recommend you seek another inverter, the Redback is just not reliable enough. The system can not handle overload, and trips to clear the overload, rather than switching to grid, so many household blackouts.

18months old and multiple issues, battery trip outs, loss of wifi connectivity, the online monitoring service is very informative when working correctly, but data can't be trusted, date rarely matches smartmeter data or shows that we generate power at night (we could be millionaires with this!) Originally customer service were very helpful but after few months are issues evidently became a bore with no responses being received. With help of our installer they have now admitted that they are aware of all the issues prescribed by myself and others and that they are unable to offer permanent solutions...great. Premium inverter can't do its job.
Luckily our installer is now pushing them for compensation and a complete refund. Awaiting Redback to respond but our next step is Consumer Affairs.
